Biggest Life Changes That May Warrant Additional Health Insurance

6 hours ago, in Health & Beauty

Jeremy + Brittany | FlooredWhen you are hurt or sick you need health insurance. The cost of paying it on your own can place you in great debt. Simply getting the basic coverage may not be enough depending on your circumstances. There are times in your life where it may be in your interest to increase your coverage to things like income protection insurance or get additional amounts to help pay for upcoming costs.

Marriage

When two people form one union it can be a lot cheaper for the cost of the premiums if the family plan is taken into account. However, if both of you are working you will need to decide which company has the better option or if the cost will be cheaper to continue the coverage on separate policies.

Pregnancy

The cost to have a child has skyrocketed. Most of the fees that people pay for are the standard doctor office visits, medication for prenatal vitamins, and testing to ensure that the new baby is healthy. This does not include the actual hospital delivery costs. These costs can include everything from the use of the room to regular standard care.

Children

If you and your spouse alone are covered you need to make plans for the little one that is due to arrive. Most children often get sick as their immune systems build up a tolerance. They will also need to get immunization shots from the doctor and any routine checkups. These expenses will not be covered by your carrier if you have not added them on your policy.

Business Owners

If you are the sole business owner you make the decisions as to what goes on in the business day to day. There may be managers and others that report to you, but you are held responsible for the big financial decisions concerning the company. As you are a vital part of the company, you need to make sure that you have coverage that reflects this. Many owners do not have any type of coverage and when they become sick end up having to sell their company to pay for their bills.

New Employees

Whenever you are starting out you will need to have protection. Although the majority of people do not get sick when they are young they are more prone to get involved in some type of accident. Companies offer benefits to new staff after passing a probation period. It may be a few months or instantly, but make sure that you sign up.

Seniors

As people age they are more susceptible to getting ill. This is when they really need to have some type of coverage. Although the current standard is that you are converted over to a government plan when you reach the qualifying age (if you have paid enough money through your working career), others have not and must seek an alternative form of protection. While you are still working, you need to make plans on having adequate coverage that will last you for the rest of your life.

People need health insurance in order to pay for a potential sickness or accident. However, there are times in their lives when the standard policy may not be enough. This is when additional protection and coverage should be increased to reflect this and to help lower out-of-pocket costs.

Virat Kohli wants India to improve their death bowling ? Cricket - Bettor

Virat Kohli wants India to improve their death bowling ? Cricket News Update

After another mediocre display, the Indian bowlers have drawn criticism from their top-order batsman, Virat Kohli, who wants the Men in Blue to enhance their death bowling, if they want to compete against the stronger teams in the ICC World T20 2012.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni and company possess one of the world?s strongest batting line-ups in the presence of Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh. Their bowling; however, has been under immense criticism over the last two years.

During India?s second warm-up match of the tournament against Pakistan earlier this week, the Green Shirts chased down a mammoth total of 185 runs with ease, exposing Zaheer Khan and company?s impotency on flat tracks.

Afghanistan also showed impressive fight with the bat against India last night, losing the match by just 23 runs.

Kohli, who was named as the Player of the Match for his brilliant half-century, wanted the Indian victory to be a more comprehensive one. The stylish right-hander wants his bowlers to do better in the latter stages of an innings.

"I believe we could have done better as a bowling unit and won by a bigger margin. We could have bowled in better areas. I think our bowling in the initial overs has been pretty good but it is the bowling at the death that needs to improve," Kohli said.

Praising the spirited effort put up by the Afghans, Kohli expressed that Nawroz Mangal-led side played fearless cricket because they had nothing to lose. In such matches, the talented batsman believes, pressure is always on the higher ranked side because of the stakes involved.

"That's exactly what happens when you play a lower-ranked opposition. They do not have the fear of failure. They are not concerned about the match situations and little things,? he added. "Normally, in these situations, you find players expressing themselves well and doing the right things more often than not."

India will now take on England, the defending champions, on September 23rd at the same venue and would love to carry forward the momentum in the Super 8 stage by beating the defending T20 champions.

Youth Gain Voices Through Students' Public Speaking Campaign ...

Three Amador Valley High School students are giving community youth a voice through their public speaking campaign.

Juniors Melody Huang, Alice Deng, and Shilpa Krish founded "RSVP" ? an acronym for repertoire, speech, voice, and presentation. These make up what the campaign focuses on when it comes to strengthening kids' public speaking skills. They came up with the idea last school year and coordinated with the Pleasanton and San Leandro Libraries to host classes there over the summer.

After gaining public speaking experience from their high school's DECA Chapter, a national business organization targeted towards high school students, they were inspired to start their own campaign to help others.

"We know that speech deliverance often causes a lot of anxiety and stress, and having been through that phase ourselves, we wanted to change that for our youth," Huang said.

To go along with their motto and logo "Just Say It!" they wanted students to come out being more assertive in stating their opinions in front of an audience.?

Aside from founding the campaign, the three are executive directors who work as expansion coordinators, operations managers, and marketing coordinators.

Nearly a dozen other instructors and interns help with the campaign at both the pleasanton and San Leandro locations. Huang hopes to expand the campaign to other cities like Hayward, San Ramon, Castro Valley, and Fremont. They already receive participants from neighboring cities like Dublin and Livermore. Her dream is to take it statewide and beyond.

According to Huang, the number of students that attend varies depending on the classes, but on average they get about 20 to 30 students.

Instructors are available to provide students of different ages one-on-one attention to assess their abilities and provide feedback. Huang said students receive impromptu speeches ? normally a few paragraphs long ? which they then practice reading in a few minutes prior to giving a semi-formal presentation.

A variety of games like charades, staring contests, and "guessing the voice," also help students by targetting specific areas of public speaking such as gestures, eye contact and voice.

"These tend to be a challenge for them, and urge them to think on their feet," Huang said.

Overall, the campaign has been proving to be a success. Huang said she finds that the most rewarding part of the campaign is to see students' improvements and enthusiasm during each lesson.

"We love interacting and making friends with the new members, but we also love seeing old clients. We are very happy to know that we've helped to make a difference in our society and helped build confidence in our youngest generation," she said.

LTE handsets? Sprint's got 'em. And while the carrier's network deployment may be, well, a bit lacking at present, plenty of Now Network subscribers have been happy to pick up devices boasting the speedy technology. Speaking at a conference in New York, CEO Dan Hesse noted that Sprint has moved some one million LTE devices -- a number that's likely to keep growing, as the carrier continues to roll out coverage.

Judge says anti-Muslim clip can stay on YouTube

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? A 14-minute film trailer blamed for protest violence in the Middle East will remain on YouTube, after an actress lost her legal challenge to take it down.

Cindy Lee Garcia, who appeared in "Innocence of Muslims," asked a judge to order the video removed in a Los Angeles County court Thursday.

But Superior Court Judge Luis Lavin rejected Garcia's request because she wasn't able to produce any agreement she had with the makers of "Innocence of Muslims" and the man behind the film hadn't been served with a copy of her lawsuit.

Garcia's attorney, Cris Armenta, told reporters that her client plans to return to court in three weeks with more evidence to bolster her case.

The video posted to YouTube has been linked to protests that continue to rage across the Middle East. The White House has asked YouTube to take it down and the company has refused, saying it doesn't violate its content standards.

While Thursday's legal ruling might further antagonize protesters, the lawsuit had little chance of succeeding because of a federal law that protects third parties from liability for content they handle, legal experts said.

"From the beginning this was a Hail Mary pass," said Jeremiah Reynolds, a Los Angeles attorney who specializes in intellectual property and First Amendment cases. "I think they hoped the judge would have enough sympathy for this woman to have him take the video down."

Garcia is suing for fraud and slander against Internet search giant Google Inc., which owns YouTube, and Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the man behind the video who has gone into hiding since it gained attention.

The 14-minute trailer depicts Muhammad as a womanizer, religious fraud and child molester.

Garcia claimed she was duped by Nakoula and that the script she saw referenced neither Muslims nor Muhammad. She also said her voice had been dubbed over after filming.

Her lawsuit mirrors similar claims made by those who said they were fooled by actor Sacha Baron Cohen during the making of "Borat" and "Bruno." The British comedian was unsuccessfully sued by some non-actors who appeared in his movie who weren't familiar with his outlandish characters.

"Although this is a much more serious situation, the (legal) analysis should be the same," Reynolds said. "It's an act that is protected by the First Amendment."

Cindy Cohen, the legal director for San Francisco-based Electronic Frontier Foundation, said Garcia does have a claim against the filmmaker but not against Google.

"The law protects Google here because they aren't the producers of the film," Cohen said. "You don't want a situation where the host is responsible for the content. Then nobody would ever be a host."

Garcia's lawsuit contends that keeping the film online violates her right of publicity, invades her privacy rights and that post-filming dialogue changes cast her in a false light.

"I think we need to take it (the film) off because it will continue to cause more problems," she said. "I think it's demoralizing, degrading."

Garcia said she has been threatened at least eight times and has called the FBI but she hasn't heard back from federal agents.

Armenta argued in court that her client was used a puppet to make the film, and she was clearly defrauded and lied to by the people behind the movie.

"She did not sign on to be a bigot," Armenta said.

Timothy Alger, the lawyer representing Google at Thursday's hearing, said the company shouldn't be responsible for what transpired between Garcia and the filmmakers. He said no matter how someone views the content "it is something of widespread debate."

YouTube has blocked users in Saudi Arabia, Libya and Egypt from viewing the clip, as well as Indonesia and India, because it violates laws in those countries.

Garcia could seek to have a judge grant an injunction against Nakoula to order him to remove the video, but it wouldn't accomplish what Garcia set out to do.

"It would have little to no effect because other websites are showing the film," Reynolds said. "It would be a moot point."

HBT: So, Josh Hamilton is a big wimp now?

Josh Hamilton is a fantastic baseball player who overcame serious drug addiction and whose body takes a greater physical beating than most non-catchers out there both by chance and by virtue of the way he plays the game. ?But by all means, let?s start calling him a big sissy.

Jean Jacques Taylor of ESPN Dallas wrote a column today saying Hamilton lacks ?mental toughness? because he left yesterday?s Rangers-Angels game with a sinus headache. ?Earlier today Jon Heyman tweeted that Hamilton won?t get MVP votes because of his headache.

Not mentioned in Taylor or Heyman?s baloney is the fact that Hamilton was suffering from vision problems as well, suggesting that this was more?migraine?than sinus headache.

But never mind that. Big tough baseball writers have decided that a guy who has hit home runs in postseason play despite playing with a frayed groin is some sort of sissy simply because he?d be unable to see a ball coming at him at 95 miles per hour.

Pansy.

Premiums inching higher for popular Medicare plans

(AP) ? Obama administration officials say they have some good election-year news for seniors.

Monthly premiums for popular Medicare Advantage insurance plans are rising by only $1.47 next year, to an average of $32.59.

The private plans often can provide the same services as traditional Medicare for a lower out-of-pocket cost, but seniors have to accept some restrictions on choice.

About 12 million Medicare recipients are in private plans. Enrollment is projected to rise by more than 1 million next year.

The news follows a recent announcement that prescription drug premiums would remain stable for the third year in a row, about $30 a month.

Since the premium numbers are averages, some people may see their costs go up. They can shop for a lower cost plan.

Kelleher & Associates Accused Of Total Matchmaking Fail

A Florida woman is suing a pair of mother-daughter millionaire matchmakers after she paid their firm $45,000 for dating services and was set up with suitors who didn?t match her tastes, including a ?sexually promiscuous Internet sex toy purveyor,? a convicted criminal and a Republican, according to court documents.

In 2008, Joan E. Cooke hired the firm Kelleher & Associates, a premier matchmaking service run by Amber Kelleher and her daughter Jill, both former Hollywood actresses.

?I literally have grammy award-winning singers, I have producers that won academy awards, I have actresses that are known and working,? said the younger Kelleher of her clients in a 2010 interview.

But those kinds of matches are not what the 59-year-old Cooke got, she says, after submitting a personal profile to the firm that included specific traits she was seeking in a potential mate. The complaint lists suitors whom Cooke?s ?personalized search? yielded, but whose backgrounds she found less than desirable.

?There is absolutely nothing in Cooke?s profile to suggest that she would be compatible with a sexually promiscuous internet sex toy purveyor and aficionado,? reads the complaint, filed in California Supreme Court last week. Another alleged match, a man who re-entered the workforce after retiring to make ends meet, was ?not even a semblance of the ?successful entrepreneur? who could ?travel the world? that Cooke, who is an executive at two healthcare firms, was seeking in her profile,? according to the complaint.

A Google search by Cooke revealed that one match had a history of mail fraud convictions going back to the 1970s. Another was a ?Republican whip in the Florida legislature.? (Cooke had stated in her profile that she was a ?Democrat? and ?fairly liberal in all areas,? according to the complaint.)

Cooke's lawyer alleges that when Cooke expressed skepticism about the conservative suitor, a Kelleher & Associates employee told her that ?opposites attract.? Cooke, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment, is demanding restitution from the firm along with at least $25,000 in damages.

A Kelleher & Associates spokesman told HuffPost in an email that the lawsuit was baseless, adding that the 25-year-old company had never before been sued.

Amber and Jill Kelleher, who were also unreachable, told "Entertainment Tonight" in 2010 that they were responsible for more than 400 marriages.

UPDATE: This story has been updated to include Cooke's age and occupation.

Brain neurons and diet influence onset of obesity and diabetes in mice

ScienceDaily (Sep. 18, 2012) ? The absence of a specific type of neuron in the brain can lead to obesity and diabetes in mice report researchers in The EMBO Journal. The outcome, however, depends on the type of diet that the animals are fed.

A lack of AgRP-neurons, brain cells known to be involved in the control of food intake, leads to obesity if mice are fed a regular carbohydrate diet. However, animals that are deficient in AgRP-neurons but which are raised on a high-fat diet are leaner and healthier. The differences are due to the influence of the AgRP-neurons on the way other tissues in the body break down and store nutrients. Mice lacking AgRP-neurons adapt poorly to a carbohydrate diet and their metabolism seems better suited for feeding on fat.

?Susceptibility to obesity and other metabolic diseases is mostly thought to be due to complex genetic interactions and the radical environmental changes that have occurred during the last century. However, it is not just a question of what you eat and your genetic makeup but also how the body manages to convert, store and use food nutrients,? commented Serge Luquet, lead author of the study and a researcher at the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) Unit of Functional and Adaptive Biology, Universit? Paris Diderot, Sorbonne Paris Cit?.

The scientists wanted to show if a primary setting in the brain might directly affect the relative balance that exists in peripheral tissue between storage, conversion and utilization of carbohydrate and lipids. ?The idea that we wanted to test in our experiments was whether the action of a specific type of brain cell known as the AgRP-neuron extended beyond its known influence on food intake. We found a new function for these cells, one that affects the communication with and activities of other tissues in the body including the liver, muscle and the pancreas,? added Luquet.

The researchers showed that mice that lacked AgRP-neurons from birth and which were fed on a regular carbohydrate diet had excessive body fat, increased amounts of the sugar-regulating hormone insulin, and normal levels of glucose in the blood. When the same animals were fed a high fat diet they showed a reduced gain in body weight and improved glucose clearance in the blood.

?Our work shows that central circuits in the brain that control food intake also control how nutrients are used in peripheral organs of the body,? remarked Luquet. ?This further role for AgRP-neurons might represent a core mechanism linking obesity and obesity-related diseases.?

The prevalence of obesity and other metabolic diseases is increasing rapidly and effective and safe treatments are urgently needed. Obesity adversely affects health, decreases life expectancy, and increases the likelihood of other diseases including heart disease and type II diabetes. ?Understanding the mechanisms by which the brain controls how nutrients are metabolized and stored in peripheral organs may prove essential to achieving a clinical breakthrough for these debilitating diseases,? added Luquet.

Tropical Storm Nadine continues to bring rains and winds to the Azores in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, but that rainfall continues to diminish according to data from NASA satellites. NASA's unmanned Global Hawk aircraft is also exploring the storm today, Sept. 19.

A tropical storm warning is in effect on Sept. 19 for the islands of Flores, Corvo, Faial, Pico, Sao Jorge, Graciosa, Terceira, Sao Miguel and Santa Maria in the Azores.

The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite flew over Nadine on Sept. 19 at 1013 UTC (6:13 a.m. EDT) and captured data on rainfall rates occurring within the tropical storm. TRMM's Microwave Imager (TMI) and Precipitation Radar (PR) data showed that no rainfall was occurring near Nadine's center. The maximum precipitation intensity found in rain bands around Nadine was only about 0.8 inches (20mm) per hour. The lack of convection (rising air that forms the thunderstorms that make up the tropical cyclone) is a sign that the tropical storm is decaying or weakening.

NASA's Hurricane Severe Storms Sentinel (HS3) Mission plans to send one of the unmanned Global Hawk aircraft to investigate Nadine again on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

On Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. EDT Tropical Storm Nadine's maximum sustained winds were near 50 mph (85 kmh). Nadine was located about 270 miles (430 km) west of the Azores islands, near 37.2 north latitude and 31.8 west longitude. Nadine is moving toward the north-northeast near 5 mph (7 kmh) and is expected to start drifting to the east-southeast. Nadine's estimated minimum central pressure was 993 millibars.

According to the National Hurricane Center, early on Sept. 19, Corvo in the Azores reported sustained winds of 42 mph (68 kmh) with a gust to 58 mph (93 kmh). In addition, ocean swells continue to affect the Azores and are causing life-threatening surf conditions and rip tides.

The National Hurricane Center noted that if Nadine continues to show weaker convection, it may no longer qualify as a tropical or subtropical cyclone.

Present at the signing ceremony were Mr. Serdar Toktamis, Group General Manager of the Zubair Automotive Group, Mr. A V Rammohan, General Manager of the Commercial Group, and Mr. Mohammed Hubais, General Manager of Operations.

In addition, Mr. Chandler Cheng, Manager of the GCC region, and Mr. James Zhu, Manager of Commercial Vehicles, represented Foton.
Foton is one of the leading automobile manufacturers of China and is rapidly expanding operations on a global scale.

Headquartered in Beijing, with existing assets of nearly 30 billion Yuan and employing an approximately 40,000-strong workforce - Foton is a large enterprise group that manufactures vehicles and parts for a global customer base. Throughout the Middle East, Foton has already appointed several strong dealers, and in Oman, Zubair Automotive Group is synonymous with supplying quality and reliable automobile brand products and services - making this newly announced partnership a perfect fit.

The Zubair Automotive Group has an exclusive vehicle distribution agreement for complete built-up vehicles, which means that this exclusive agreement is valid for sales, service and spare parts related activities for Foton products, covering commercial vehicles, pickups, minibuses and Vans.

Foton is increasingly recognised world-over for manufacturing high-quality commercial vehicles and making them available to customers at reasonable prices; this unique combination of value and dependability will ensure that clients in Oman will have a great choice when it comes to purchasing commercial vehicles.

"Foton is a brand that has rapidly grown to represent quality and innovation, while Zubair Automotive Group is one of the largest automobile distributors in Oman, with an extensive network throughout the Sultanate. Foton products will make concrete business sense in Oman, by reducing operating costs as well as by ensuring that customers in Oman have access to quality products," said Mr. Mohammed Hubais.

In order to provide customers in Oman with outstanding sales and after sales support, and to demonstrate the commitment from the Zubair Automotive Group, there are plans to build an exclusive 3S (Sales - Service - Spare Parts) facility in the Muscat governorate within the next few months. In the Oman interiors, Zubair Automotive Group has plans to establish similar facilities through its group facilities or sub dealerships to ensure that the reach of the Foton brand is strategically broadened across the Sultanate.

Mr. Hubais added, "Foton is unquestionably one of the top manufacturers of commercial and light passenger vehicles in China. Foton vehicles are known for their reliability, durability, and low maintenance cost and fuel efficiency. Their state-of-the-art technology, in-depth research and stringent quality control practices ensure high quality product with better 'value for money'. Auman, Aumark, View, Tunland and Loxa are the models of Foton which Zubair will be launching in the Omani market to suit the varied customer requirements in Oman."

Twitter Gives Muslims A Voice, A (Seriously) Funny Voice #MuslimRage

newsweek-muslim-rage-cover-2Muslims found an unlikely opening to voice their opposition to mainstream stereotypes, exploiting a social media misstep by Newsweek's inflammatory cover on Muslim violence. In response to Newsweek's call to discuss the problem of violent muslim intolerance through the Twitter hashtag #muslimrage, clever users flooded the discussion with (hilarious) parodies, like this gem: "Lost your kid Jihad at the airport. Can't yell for him. #MuslimRage."

Planning Layouts for Business Security | Win Business & Finance

Businesses are susceptible to suffering irreparable damages with both the external and internal threats from employee theft, viruses, computer hackers, competitor spies, looters, robbers and terrorists. Hence, many have started to consider laying out effective plans for King of Prussia business security. These will be serving as the protective measures which will mitigate the risks to premises, products and people.

The first thing that businesses have to see through is knowing their employees prior to hiring them. Checking diligently the backgrounds and references of job applicants will reduce the likelihood of surprises once they have become a part of employee workforce. According to HR Magazine, around 40-70 percent of applicants distort their working histories.

Businesses should also consider identifying the risks that can potentially arise from each employee. Their primary concern should be on the protection of the well-being of their employees. This means they will have to protect their employees from the undesirable outsiders, including attacks from terrorists. For such purpose, banks often make their teller stations from acrylic plastic to protect the tellers from possible bank robberies.

Employee activities should be monitored. Monitoring techniques might be different from one industry to another and these will also be dependent on how many employees are working in the establishment. However, among the most common approaches is a manager walking by, observing employees as they perform their jobs. There are also others that make use of cameras, internet or email monitoring software.

There are many businesses that consider employing both manual and digital monitoring. With managers walking around, showing some interest in the work of employees, a friendlier atmosphere will be promoted and employees will also feel more confident in themselves. Using cameras and other digital devices for surveillance can also help in flagging employee visits to various websites.

Businesses should also learn to identify the risks to their services and their products. Losing trade secrets has recently been rampant. Because companies generally seek gaining the competitive advantage, espionage actually happens.

Some business security systems involve imposing a limit to who can access company information. They should ensure that each of their employee will have a code that will make them access not only the company computers but certain areas within the buildings as well. This will help in keeping track the daily activities of employees and can also prevent violations in information access and transfer.

Another method to ensure commercial security is building barriers. Criminals prefer running after they have robbed an establishment. Building fences, single entrances and exits, along with locked gates will create deterrents that will prevent unwanted outside entries into the company buildings.

Building relationships would also be a good approach to keep King of Prussia business security intact. Businesses should maintain regular interaction and communication with fire departments and local police stations. Police departments would usually be amenable to checking out the premises to find the vulnerable areas that will need additional security. In addition, interacting with the councils composed of hospitals, fire and police departments can encourage working relationships which will be very beneficial in times of need, such as when natural disasters occur.
