What Is Meditation In Today's World? | Health and Fitness

Accordingly to Wikipedia.com, ?What Is Meditation?? It says Meditation is any form of a family of practices in which practitioners train their minds or self-induce a mode of consciousness to realize some benefit.

I fully agree with the definition. I would like to simplify it in my own words, ?to meditate, is to train your mind, to realize some benefit?.

There are so many reasons why people meditate. Some people say it gives them a more peaceful mind. That?s true. Others will tell you it makes the mind really sharp and creative, so you can accomplish more things. This is also true.

And a few people say they just love how it feels, when they sit down to meditate.

There are so many traditions, lineages and meditation techniques. Some of the teachings are over a few thousand years old. It covers a wide range from, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, New Age, Sikhism, Taosim and many more.

Most importantly, whichever practice you choose to be train on, you have to be really comfortable with it, and feel right in your heart.

Modern scientists tell us we are only using a tiny fraction of our brains. Once you dive below the surface, you will discover a beautiful, crystal clear place ? like a diamond hidden beneath the rubble. It is your own mind, uncovered.

Want to increase your IQ? Meditate. Want to be more creative? Meditate. Want to be a more peaceful person? Meditate.

All these are just some benefits of meditation, but they are really only by-products: something that comes automatically as you strive for a higher goal. There are much deeper reasons to learn how to meditate.

Meditation is really easy to start, even if you have never done it before.

While you are reading this right now, you can also start meditating, and experience what is meditation is a small way. Let?s try a really simple and easy method to feel what meditation is like.

I assume you are sitting on your chair reading this off your computer screen. All you need is to sit at the edge of your chair, and keep your back straight.

Extend your spine, relax your shoulders, place both hands at your thighs and keep your chin upright. In a few moments later, I?m going to ask you to close your eyes, and you are going to focus on your breaths.

As you inhale, place your focus at the tip of your nostrils, as you feel all the cold air rush into your nostrils and down into your lungs, and as you exhale, feel all the warm air from your lungs and out to your nostrils.

When you do that, count in your head, ?One?; take your time, inhale and exhale, and count, ?Two?. Do this until you count till Ten.

So, close your eyes slowly now and just do this focus meditation and count from one till ten.

How do you feel? Was it easy for you? Does your mind feel like a runaway train? Or do you feel more focused, relax, and your mind is clearer? No matter how you feel, it?s normal.

Well done and good job! You just learn how to meditate. I sincerely wish this writing will inspire you to dive into the beautiful world of meditation, and into depths of your own mind.
