Newcastle United striker Demba Ba rocketed
to the top of the Twitter trend lists this afternoon as rumours spread that
Galatasaray had agreed a deal to sign him.
The Senegal international has a ?7m release clause in his Magpies contract and rumours were flying around that Sky Italia had announced that this clause had been met.
Concerned Newcastle fans immediately took to the internet and began to tweet their shock and displeasure at the potential move, while tweets from people who had supposedly seen the report grew in number.
Galatasaray are known to be seeking a goalscorer this summer and Ba would be an ideal target considering the release clause in his contract and his record in front of goal last season.
The 27-year-old was in fine goal scoring form in the first half of the season, leading Newcastle?s goal-scoring charts. The arrival of his countryman Papiss Cisse saw him move out of the limelight, however he still ended the season with an impressive 16 league goals.
